to annual meeting point of food global food Ministers and producers

Berlin, November 14, 2019

The Ministries of Agriculture and food producers from different parts of the world will convene in the German capital Berlin in two months’ time with an invitation to the Zambian minister being on the cards.

The 6th German-African Agribusiness Forum is expected to assess the crucial factors in designing successful agribusiness in Africa and discuss how to bring agricultural produce to the next level.

The conference organizers – Africa-Verein and the German Agribusiness Alliance, have invited Zambia’s Agriculture and Livestock Minister Mr. Michael Katambo.

Zambia’s Ambassador to Germany His Excellency Anthony Mukwita said Hon Minister Katambo’s invitation has already been officially conveyed to his office.

Ambassador Mukwita said the forum will provide the Minister with an opportunity to interact with his counterparts and agribusiness executives and exchange experiences in business related to agriculture.

“President Edgar Lungu has opened up the agricultural sector and challenged all of us to play a part in ensuring that the sector that employs the majority of our people reaches its full potential”, Mr. Mukwita said.

Since President Lungu assumed office, the country has seen improved road infrastructure that has connected agricultural production areas, improved payment systems for producers and the timely distribution of farming inputs.

Despite adverse weather patterns occasioned by climate change, Zambia, under President Lungu, has managed to remain food secure to a large extent compared to other countries in the region.

“This is why the 6th German-African Agribusiness Forum is important for us”, said Ambassador Mukwita, adding, “so that our Minister can remain abreast of the latest trends in the agricultural business”.

Forum organizers have described the German-African Agribusiness Forum as “the most important platform for European-African agribusiness in Germany”. Last year, the forum attracted over 300 decision and policy makers from around the globe.

Hon Dora Siliya is the last Agriculture Minister to have attended this high-level meeting on record in 2018.

African-Verein or the German Business Association and the German Agribusiness Alliance draw their members from German companies with interest in Africa.

Owing to the activities of the two organizations, interest in Zambia is intensifying among German companies.
