The Acting Clerk of the National Assembly of Zambia Mrs. Loveness Maambo Mayaka says the National Assembly of Zambia and the German Bundestag have agreed to strengthen cooperation in planning and organisation of plenary sessions.
Mrs Mayaka who was leading a delegation of staff from the National Assembly to the Germany Bundestag from 21st September to 27th September 2025, says her delegation looked at the Germany budget approval process and pointed out that the Zambian parliament has also rolled out sector analysis of the national budget.
Speaking when she and her delegation paid a courtesy call on Zambia’s Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany, Her Excellency Mrs.Winnie Natala Chibesakunda, Mrs. Mayaka said her delegation looked at how the Germany system has evolved adding that several improvements in their system have been picked for incorporation to make the Zambian system more effective.
And Mrs Mayaka has expressed gratitude to the Germany Federal government for supporting the construction of 17 constituency offices in Zambia noting that the development has helped people to engage with their members of parliament.
She said her delegation learnt how the Bundestag has enhanced operations of the constituency offices and how they are reaching out to the public and involving young people in politics of the Bundestag adding that the National Assembly of Zambia hopes to attract more young people to get interested in parliamentary work.
And Ambassador Chibesakunda encouraged the National Assembly to involve more young people in Parliament and mentor them from an early age. She said participation of young people from an early age will help improve the quality of Members of Parliament.
The National Assembly delegation was in Germany at the invitation of the German Bundestag (Parliament) and the study visit focussed on areas such as public participation in parliamentary proceedings, support services to committees, utilization of constituency offices, budget oversight and research services to Members of Parliament.
