BERLIN, Germany, Tuesday 13th May 2025
United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres has officially opened the 2025 United Nations Peacekeeping Ministerial Conference in Berlin, Germany.
The two-day Ministerial Conference has attracted thousands of political leaders, military leaders and institutions that are interested in peacekeeping efforts across the world.
Zambia is represented at the conference by Ministry of Defence Permanent Secretary Mr. Maambo Haamaundu, Zambia Army Commander Lieutenant General Geoffrey Zyeele, Zambia
Army Secretary Brigadier General Dr David Sanene and Military Advisor at Zambia’s Mission to the United Nations in New York Brigadier General Oliver Musonda.
After the official opening, Mr. Haamaundu held an interaction with Namibia’s Minister of Defence and Veteran Affairs Mr. Frans Kapofi.
Tomorrow, Mr. Haamaundu is scheduled to present a national statement and make Zambia’s pledge for peacekeeping.
On the side-lines of the Ministerial Conference, Mr. Haamaundu will also speak on the role Zambia is playing in peacekeeping efforts, especially on the Female Engagement Teams where the Zambia Army has deployed in the Central Africa Republic under the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA).
