Vice President MUTALE NALUMANGO has arrived in Ljubljana, Slovenia to attend the 10th session of the water convention starting tomorrow October 23 to 25. ZANIS reports that the aircraft carrying Mrs NALUMANGO touched down at the Ljubljana International Airport at exact 19:30 hours local time.
Mrs NALUMANGO was received by Zambia’s Ambassador accredited to Slovenia Winnie Chibesakunda and other senior government officials. And addressing journalist upon arrival, Mrs NALUMANGO said the convention is important to Zambia because of the different topics that will be discussed during the convention.
Mrs NALUMANGO notes that among the topics to be discussed are issues to do with water adding that with the effects of climate change the convention will be an opportunity to learn from the more than 55 countries that are signed up under the water convention. Mrs Nalumango is tomorrow expected to give a statement during the official opening of the convention on the initiatives that Zambia has put in place to manage transboundary water sources. Thousands of delegates from different countries including African countries have already arrived in readiness to share ideas in the management of water conflicts.
The water convention will advance global protection of shared water resources and further align Zambia’s national strategies on water with international water governance framework.
