The Permanent Secretary for Technical Services in the Ministry of Agriculture Mr John Mulongoti has described the just ended Global Forum for Food and Agriculture (GFFA) which was held in Berlin, Germany as a progressive forum.
He said the successful engagements that his delegation had, underscored Zambia’s commitment to leveraging international partnerships to enhance agricultural productivity and sustainability. The discussions also highlighted Zambia’s vast potential for agricultural investment, from infrastructure development to innovative farming technologies.
The Zambian delegation also had a bilateral exchange with Germany’s Federal Minister of Food and Agriculture, Hon Cem Ozdemir , focusing on strengthening Zambia-Germany collaboration in agriculture.
Mr Mulongoti also participated in a panel discussion on ‘Bio Economy and Transformation of Agriculture and Food Systems’ where he presented Zambia’s initiatives in sustainable agriculture.
The delegation further had engagements with the private sector that included the German Africa Agribusiness Alliance, Bayer, and Amatheon Agric, and explored potential investments in Zambia’s agricultural sector.
The forum culminated into the Berlin Agriculture Ministers Conference which focused on shaping policies for sustainable agriculture and concluded with the adoption of a forward- looking communique.
This participation follows the landmark visit of the Germany Federal Minister of Food and Agriculture Hon Cem Ozdemirand a German business delegation to Zambia in November 2024, which laid the foundation for Zambia’s strategic engagement at the Global Forum for Food and Agriculture.
Mr Mulongoti stated that the Zambian government looks forward to fostering more investment opportunities from the connections established during the event.
The Global Forum for Food and Agriculture is a premier international platform that convenes global leaders from politics, industry, academia, and civil society to discuss pressing challenges and opportunities in food security and sustainable agriculture.
Mr Mulongoti’s delegation included Zambia’s Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany Mrs Winnie Chibesakunda, Director at the Ministry of Agriculture Mr Peter Zulu, Project Manager, Agriculture and Food Security Cluster (Germany International Cooperation Society- GIZ Zambia ) Ms. Elina Weber and Mr Chitonge Mushota, First Secretary Trade at the Zambian Embassy in Berlin.
