Zambia’s Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany, H.E Winnie Natala Chibesakunda has officially handed over the Zambian Presidential Flag Ribbon to the Germany Federal Ministry of Defence Guard Battalion in Berlin.

Speaking at the exchange ceremony which was held at Julius Leber Barracks in Berlin on Tuesday, Ambassador Chibesakunda said the Presidential National Flag Ribbon of Zambia is a ceremonial item associated with the Presidency and National symbols of Zambia.

She stated that Zambia last presented the Presidential Flag Ribbon to the Germany Federal Ministry of Defence Guard Battalion in 1970 and that it was now being replaced with a new one.

Ambassador Chibesakunda explained that the Presidential Flag Ribbon is typically used for official state functions such as state visits, ceremonies and events to signify the presence of the President or to honour national achievements of Zambia and it is often attached to the Zambian national flag or other ceremonial flags used by the Presidency.

She said the exchange ceremony marks a special day in the Germany-Zambia relations.

The two countries warm relations include military cooperation which has seen several Zambian defence personnel doing various study programs in Germany.

The Ambassador was accompanied by the Minister Counsellor, Defence Attaché and other diplomatic and local staff from the Zambian Embassy in Berlin.
