…….fastest growing economies are in Africa

Flensburg, November 20, 2018

Chairman of the German/Africa Business Association known in Germany as Africa Verein, Dr. Stefan Liebing has said investing in Africa was the logical thing to do. Dr. Liebing said of the 10 fastest growing economies in the world, 6 of them are to be found in Africa.

“This means logically that this is where you want to take your investment”, Dr. Liebing told between 150 and 200 business and technology students at the Center for Business and Technology in Africa located at the Flensburg University of Applied Sciences.

He challenged the students to persuade their employers to consider investing on the African continent warning that failure to do so would lead to other competitors from other parts of the world grabbing the opportunities.

Dr. Liebing was part of a six-member panel that included Zambia’s Ambassador to Germany His Excellency Anthony Mukwita who had been invited by the University to speak to business students regarding investment opportunities in Africa, Zambia in particular.

As part of their training, the students are expected in turn to prepare project proposals intended to persuade their employers why they needed to invest in an African country of their choice. The panel discussion was sponsored by the Center for Business and Technology in Africa whose major focus is that of identifying investment opportunities on the continent.

Ambassador Mukwita used the opportunity to introduce to the students investment opportunities that have opened up in the energy sector in Zambia where the removal of subsidies has attracted private investment.

Mr. Mukwita also told the students about the one million hectares of land the government of President Lungu has set aside for agricultural purposes with more investment opportunities in the value chain.

“Zambia has a whole range of investment opportunities that above all is underpinned by uninterrupted peace and political stability since the country got her independence from Britain 54 years ago”, the senior diplomat said.

Ambassador Mukwita participated in the panel discussion as part of his efforts to raise the profile and visibility of Zambia among various German audiences.

“I want business people, students, ordinary Germans and the traveling public to always think of Zambia every time they are planning to invest or travel for their holidays and this can only be done if we interact with various audiences”, the Zambian envoy said.
